Ahmad Alhendawi

Then: UN Envoy on Youth

Now: Secretary-General of the World Organization of the Scout Movement

Ahmad Alhendawi is the first-ever United Nations Secretary-General's Envoy on Youth, also making him the youngest senior official in the history of the United Nations. It is in that capacity that he came to Salzburg Global's session on Youth, Economics and Violence: Implications for Future Conflict. At that session,Alhendawi spoke about the challenges in maintaining functioning democracies because of the unequal lack of access to resources for disadvantaged youths, resulting in a loss of interest in politics. As the 10th Secretary-General of the World Organization of the Scout Movement, Alhendawi is yet again the youngest person to hold that position in the history of the world's leading educational youth movement, serving over 54 million members in 171 countries.
